One of my favorite things to do while writing is to listen to music that will help me to stay focused.
But, not just any ole’ music. It’s got to be the kind that really helps to set the mood and brain to where focus can be achieved in an optimal amount of time. I realize everyone is different when it comes to music and writing. Some prefer words, others silence. There is a HUGE range of options in between.
What I’ve found to work best for me is music that is upbeat enough to keep my mind interested and awake, but not too distracting that it takes over my brain and doesn’t allow me to focus. Words/signing tends to distract me unless I’m so familiar with the words that I can tune them out. Most of the time I opt for no words because they compete with the words that I’m trying to hear in my head.
Something magical happens when you put the right focus music on when you’re trying to write. The world seems to do this crazy funnel thing and focuses you in on what you came to the computer or notebook to do — write.
Here are the best Spotify focus playlists that I’ve found for writing.
#1 – Deep Focus
#2 – Focus Film Scores
#3 – Focus@Work Coding Work
#4 – [Focus] The Gods of War
#5 – Focus@Will Up Tempo – High Energy
